I wrote this song for an Earth Day celebration. I was thinking about what I could possibly say about the earth when a friend of mine told me about her own friend, a dedicated environmentalist, who was despondent over the state of the world and considering suicide. My friend didn’t know what to say to her. Although I never met the despondent woman, I suggested to my friend that in my own experience, the best way to get out of the mental clutches of any problem is to step back and try to look at it from a larger perspective. For earth, the next larger perspective is the solar system, and this thought, plus a bit of research, led to the song.
